OVERVIEW

Cache County is accepting applications for the a Victim Advocate I, II, III, or IV position. Under general supervision of the Supervisor of Victim Services, the Victim Advocate assists victims of crime through the judicial process by providing support, advocacy and information regarding the legal process, investigation process, and resources such as shelter, treatment, education, legal assistance, and financial aid. .

The Victim Advocates is a full-time, benefited position. Full-time employees are eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance. Personal time off begins to accrue the first day of employment. Full-time employees also benefit from contributions to the Utah Retirement System and/or 401(k).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Victim Advocate responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Informs crime victims regarding available resources, constitutional and statutory rights; coordinates with district court, Children's Justice Center, Juvenile Courts, Division of Child and Family Services, local law enforcement personnel, etc.; notifies victims of trials, court hearings and case dispositions.

Performs crime victim assessments considering physical, emotional, and psychological needs; performs or coordinates crisis intervention for victims of crime; makes referrals and liaises when necessary to agencies providing services (housing, health care, mental health services, etc.)

Assists Spanish-speaking victims with serious victim rights issues, needs, and concerns, including the right to provide statements, the right to assist with victim impact letters, the right to financial restitution, the right to restoration of personal property, the right to protection from threats and repeat offenses, the right to timely notification of hearings, and the right to be present in court.

Assists Spanish-speaking victims with court-related matters; advises regarding various stages of the justice system;schedules appointments with prosecuting attorneys; assists with testimony preparation; coordinates restitution matters; provides court outcome information; assists with victim registration with the VINE program.

Receives and reviews cases set for court appearance; extracts and records data regarding identification of victims and witnesses; conducts interviews to determine level and type of services appropriate to the individual case; sets up files as needed to monitor level and success of victim/witness services; assures confidentiality of file materials; assists prosecutor with special or difficult cases requiring high profile or specialized communication; assists in preparing victims and witnesses to testify.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Victim Advocate I: ($22.94-$26.15) Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related engineering field; AND NOVA Credential, Spanish Speaking Required

Victim Advocate II : ($24.12-$27.49) Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related engineering field; NOVA Credential, AND 2 years experience (3900 hours) Spanish Speaking Required

Victim Advocate III: ($25.77-$29.37) Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related engineering field; NOVA Credential, AND 4 years experience (7800 hours) Spanish Speaking Required

Victim Advocate IV: ($27.01-$30.79) Bachelor's degree in Criminology, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related engineering field; NOVA Credential, AND 8 years experience (15600 hours) Spanish Speaking Required
