Job Description

Assistant Cross Country, Track & Field -Part-Time

Texas A&M UniversityTexarkana is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Coach for Track & Field and Cross Country. This position supports the Head Coach in all aspects of operating a competitive NCAA Division II program in alignment with the university's mission, the Lone Star Conference, and NCAA guidelines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, organization, and supervision of all training, practice sessions, and competition schedules for men's and women's cross country and track & field programs.
  • Specialize in and coach specific event groups (e.g., distance, sprints, throws, jumps) as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of high-character, academically qualified, and athletically talented student-athletes.
  • Promote the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes through mentoring, discipline, and consistent support.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including travel planning, budgeting, inventory, compliance, and documentation.
  • Ensure student-athlete compliance with all university, NCAA, and Lone Star Conference rules and regulations. Represent the university positively in the community, participate in fundraising, alumni outreach, and team-related events.
  • Assist in transportation of athletes to/from athletic events, which may include driving a full-size passenger van or other large capacity vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) year previous high school, collegiate or higher-level coaching and playing experience.
  • General knowledge of NAIA and NCAA rules.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • Must have a State of Texas or Arkansas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Acceptable driving record and periodic completion of van safety course
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical Requirements -
    • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Working in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, standing throughout the day, the ability to use a loud voice at practices and events and physical involvement in all practices and workouts with players.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Supervisory experience
  • CPR Certification
